Embroidered with character and charm, this cozy outpost dates back to 1750, when it first opened its doors during the Revolutionary War. Historically used as a meeting place for the organizers of the John Fries Tax Rebellion and as part of the Underground Railroad, this storied building even fed man’s most iconic best friend: Lassie. Toots, the collie who inspired “Lassie Come Home,” the 1940 classic novel written by Eric Knight, spent many evenings at the dinner table with the author. Having proved the test of time, McCoole’s is now integral to Quakertown’s dining and social scenes, offering locally sourced comfort food and an endless stream of events.
Insider Tip: The tavern is home to Red Lion Brewery, which creates the restaurant’s small-batch craft beers.
