With the Owner
Restaurateur Jan Hench quickly sums up McCoole’s cuisine in one word: Comfort. “But we give it an upscale twist.” From meatloaf and steaks made with local beef to hearty pastas and sandwiches, small and large plates – including creative specials – are splashed with regional American and global flavors. “There’s a lot of years of talent in the kitchen,” she says.
In the Glass
Worthy of special treatment, premise-made Red Lion Brewery beers are dispensed from taps hand-carved by Bucks County artist Lorenzo Branca. Signature and rotating seasonal offerings include 1799 Rebel Ale, Komo Sutra IPA and Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
In our History
If walls could speak, McCoole’s would regale guests with tales of Revolutionary times. The warmly atmospheric tavern and dining rooms capture a veritable time continuum that sweeps across centuries. The inn boasts fieldstone walls and fireplaces, accented with eclectic antiques – including a vintage upright piano where ninety-one-year-old Reta Bieber takes requests for old-time tunes on Saturday evenings. (Contemporary performers provide live musical diversions in the bar and on the patio.) The adjacent McCoole’s Arts & Event Place, a one-time livery stable transformed into a rustically elegant banquet facility, can accommodate up to 100 guests with an upstairs black-box theater presenting diverse shows.
