Nestled just outside the Lehigh Valley’s hustle and bustle is Glasbern Inn, a restored 19th-century farm that celebrates quiet elegance and rustic charm.
What’s the food philosophy? It’s a locavoric experience from appetizer to dessert. The farm-to-table restaurant sources its ingredients from daily trips to farmers’ markets, neighboring farms, and its own property, meaning the menu follows the seasons and the kitchen starts from scratch. (Even the buttermilk strawberry ice cream served alongside this summer’s Strawberry Shortcake is made in-house.)
Anything to look for this summer? Summer spells the peak of tomato season, and it’s Glasbern’s tradition to not overlook the juicy nightshade plant. While local heirloom tomatoes remain their ripest, the highly anticipated annual Heirloom Tomato Caprese—made with fresh basil from Glasbern’s very own garden—will return.
If it’s my first time, what should I order? Glasbern raises nine to 12 free-range pigs at a time, so if you’re lucky enough to swing by and see pork on the menu, do yourself a favor and snag a plate before it’s sold out. Otherwise, the grass-fed Filet Mignon exemplifies simple done splendidly.
What’s there that I can’t get anywhere else? A picturesque and pastoral haven for mid-week getaways, weekend staycations, and gorgeous weddings. More than just a dining destination, the restaurant sits on a 150-acre sustainable farm that houses a variety of rustic-chic cottages and suites with a backdrop of rolling hills and shimmering ponds.
