Welcome to the playful capital of comfort food, where familiar dishes get modern makeovers and every plate is just plain fun.

WHAT’S THE VIBE LIKE?

There’s a strong sense of nostalgia at The Mint, with its fashionable retro sensibility and comforting core. The feeling is hip, the servers are knowledgeable and witty, and the pace is relaxed.

CHEERS

For the first time ever, happy hour has arrived at The Mint. On Wednesdays and Fridays, swing by from 4:30 until 6:30 for $5 drafts, $8 wines, and $9 cocktails. And, because it’s The Mint, they put a twist on it: Tuesdays – Saturdays are “reverse happy hour” from 9 to 11 p.m.

WE LOVE

Owner/Chef Domenic Lombardo’s childhood guilty pleasure was Arby’s Beef and Cheddar sandwich. His palate has evolved, but he still has a soft spot for the sandwich—so he reinvented it. As with the rest of his menu, it’s done lovingly and with intention: sous-vide roast beef that’s thinly sliced in house, zippy horseradish aioli, housemade bacon jam, caramelized onions, and a cheesy layer of cheddar, which all adds up to one of the best sandwiches. (We never thought we’d say this, but thank you, Arby’s.)

Q&A WITH THE MINT

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CREATIVE RISK YOU’VE TAKEN?

Opening a restaurant is hard enough, but opening a gastropub was something else entirely. People are still unsure of what it is, and it’s hard to define. A gastropub is an eatery that bridges the gap between a sports bar and a fine dining restaurant with everyday appeal and pricing, but high-level execution.

WHAT SIDE DISH ARE YOU THE MOST PROUD OF RIGHT NOW?

We’re making gluten-free cornbread and biscuits and we’re not losing anything—they still taste genuine, real, and flavorful. The people who don’t care about gluten are just eating a good biscuit, but we are also able to deliver biscuits and gravy to people who have been unable to enjoy them for decades.
