In the Dining Room
Antique railroad signs celebrate the historic Alburtis Tavern and Lodge’s trackside location. Vintage accents, from a collection of lanterns to a potbelly stove, add yesteryear warmth to the tavern and family-friendly dining room. Even the expansive pub fare-focused menu incorporates local heritage with such “Town Favorites” as PA Dutch-style Chicken and Waffles and classic German Jagerschnitzel. Owner Terry Bender says, “Come see what everybody is talking about!”
At the Bar
Feature attractions include signature Lockridge Lager – proceeds from which help fund the local fire company – and a game of chance that gets patrons of all ages running to the bar, quite literally. Whenever a train passes, the bartender spins a carnival wheel filled with railroad terms – Norfolk, Loco, Choo Choo and more – that correspond with brass name tags on the back of each of the bar’s seats. An adult sitting in the winning chair gets a free beer; a kid claims a free soda. Winnings are limited only by the number of times a train chugs through town.
On the Table
The Caboose, a house-specialty dessert-for-two, takes the comforting appeal of a hot-from-the-oven cookie to the next level of decadence. This super-sized chocolate chip cookie, delivered in a cast-iron skillet, comes topped with a hot fudge drizzle and vanilla ice cream.
