They’ve Got Spirit

Social Still Bartender

#neveradullmoment

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BARTENDING? 10 years.

BEST THING THAT’S HAPPENED TO YOU BEHIND THE BAR: Social Still used to be a bank owned by the Gosztonvi family. One day, their granddaughter came in and had a drink at the bar, and I learned that her family had made their money as distillers during the 1800s and then opened a bank with their fortune from distilling. The bank was built here during Prohibition. It was like coming full circle.

WHAT “UNCOOL” DRINK DO YOU LOVE? A good Piña Colada.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE INGREDIENT TO ADD TO A COCKTAIL? Fresh ginger.

WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING ON A FRIDAY NIGHT IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO WORK? Hanging out with my husband—visiting breweries and drinking beer!

WHAT’S SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I’m a yoga teacher.

WHAT’S YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS WHEN YOU COME UP WITH A NEW DRINK? I pick the spirit that I want to work with and try to have a balance of sweet and sour. There’s a lot of tasting and sampling involved.

I LOVE IT WHEN GUESTS … have a good time and a unique experience.

BUT PLEASE DON’T … be vulgar.

YOU’RE NOT A REAL BARTENDER UNTIL … you have had to cut somebody off at the end of the night—and you have the chops to make the process go smoothly!
