Filling and comforting with a little heat is what Cajun cooking is all about. With a dining room as lively as the French Quarter and the scent of gumbo simmering in the kitchen, The Bayou brings a taste of soul food to the Lehigh Valley.
If it’s my first time, what should I order? Try one of the signature dishes and southern staples like the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, or other stick-to-your-ribs entrées like Crispy Cornmeal Catfish and
Braised Oxtails.
What if I want to treat myself? The Brown Sugar Beignets, enormous deep-fried pastries with maple créme anglaise and topped with powdered sugar are a must. Beignets are warm donuts that are lusciously indulgent and necessary to try a bite of at least once. Per visit.
What does the owner eat? Co-owner Mo Taylor likes to chow down on the BBQ Shrimp and Grits, loving the way the spicy shrimp and cheesy grits meld together in his mouth. Every time he travels to New Orleans, he tries the dish everywhere he can find it—but he keeps coming back to The Bayou because it’s the best he’s ever had.
What are we drinking? Hand-mixed cocktails sipped out of Mason jars, naturally! Try the Apple Barrel—apple pie moonshine and cider beer—or the Whiskey Crush—crushed clementines
and bourbon.
What’s The Bayou’s best-kept secret? Hidden from the front of the building is a large patio, perfect for sitting out on balmy summer nights with good friends or a date.
