CHEERS

The cozy bar just feels like a gathering place: gorgeous stone accents, interactive bartenders, and chatty patrons all add to the comfortable undertones. The Mulberry is a signature cocktail, crafted with housemade fig puree and blackberry coulis. Twelve beers on tap and exclusive wines that you can’t find in stores mean that there’s something unique for every palate.

WE LOVE

Small plates, like the Super Lump Crab Cake, offer big flavors. Beautifully seared on the outside, the satisfying crunchy exterior gives way to tender crab meat that melts in your mouth. Boosted by local butternut squash, peppery arugula, and a refreshing dab of cranberry aioli, it’s a marvelous tower of fresh ingredients.

WHAT’S THE VIBE LIKE?

The linens might be stiff, but the attitude isn’t. A friendly, upbeat vibe carries throughout the restaurant, creating a gem in Hellertown. Plus, if you sit at the bar, you’ll probably leave having made new friends with the people sitting to your left and your right.

Q&A WITH 1774 GRILLE & TAP

IS THIS JUST A DINNER SPOT?

Dinner is certainly popular, but lunch is also a hit (you can score the Super Lump Crab Cake appetizer, pictured on the left, in sandwich form). Now, there is also happy hour every single day of the week from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. This two-hour window is perfect for foodies: think half-priced appetizers and half-priced drink specials.

WHAT’S FOR DESSERT?

All of the desserts are made in-house, which means they’re a little bit more creative than brownies and ice cream or pie. The Chocolate Ganache Tart, lined with a decadent Oreo crust, is also topped with a housemade marshmallow that’s toasted like a s’more.

WHAT’S THE HISTORY OF THE LOCATION?

1774 Grille and Tap is named for its history as being one of the first hotels established in Pennsylvania in the year 1774.
