McCoole’s has been a historic gathering place since 1750, when it served as a meeting place for the organizers of the John Fries Tax Rebellion and as part of the Underground Railroad. Today, the iconic building maintains its roots as a homey and cozy community hub for spirited socializing, merriment, and dining.

The Red Lion Brewery is McCoole’s own craft brewery that concocts small batches of three year-round favorites as well as a few experimental seasonal delights. This 1799 Rebel Ale is a traditional amber ale that’s malty with a sweet backbone and slightly hoppy finish, and it’s always on tap.

Warming dishes like the Tournedos of Beef au Cognac are the pinnacle of comfort food—one bite and you’ll be pining for it at suppertime for weeks to come. A menu staple for more than a decade, this decadent dish is made from a rich demi-glace that simmers for 10 hours and tender choice-cut beef.

McCoole’s is committed to actively participating in Historic Uptown Quakertown’s tourism and education. Along with other passionate community members from the Quakertown Historical Society, McCoole’s owner, Jan Hench, personally leads walking tours through the historic district.

Jan recently opened the Main Street Gallery across the street, which features work from Bucks County impressionist landscape painter, Jim Lukens, and is open to the public. Next door, the McCoole’s Arts & Events Place is always putting on a new play or event to check out. The unique space is also available for private events and boutique weddings.
